Preparation of HLJ

HLJ involves the four cities of the Helsinki metropolitan area (Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen), the Central Uusimaa KUUMA municipalities, i.e. Järvenpää, Nurmijärvi, Tuusula, Kerava, Mäntsälä, Pornainen, Hyvinkää, Kirkkonummi, Vihti ja Sipoo. The plan is the expression of the common will of these 14 participating municipalities, and regional cooperation is of special importance in the preparation of the plan.

Regional cooperation on land use, housing and transport issues, which is coordinated by the Advisory Committee on Land Use, Housing and Transport, plays a vital role in the drawing up of the plan. The work on structure models related to Uusimaa regional land use plan currently under way is also related to the transport system plan.

HLJ will establish a vision and development strategy for the transport system. A letter of intent will be concluded on the implementation of the transport system.

Preparation of the Helsinki Region Transport System Plan (HLJ 2011) begun in autumn 2008 and the plan will be completed in the end of 2010.
