Using a season ticket

Place the card to the reading area in the middle of the card reader (at a distance of 1 to 10 cm). The whole card must be in the reading area. Do not remove the card from the reader until the green light appears and the reader beeps.

 

Buying a value ticket

Place the card calmly to the reading area of the card reader from straight ahead, hold it there and press at the same time:

 

1 = INTERNAL, a journey within one zone.

With button 1 you can buy internal value tickets for Helsinki, Espoo and Kauniainen, Vantaa, Kirkkonummi and Kerava-Sipoo.

 

2 = REGION, a regional journey.

With button 2, you can buy regional value tickets valid in Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen and Vantaa.

 

0 = TRAM

With button 0, you can buy tickets that are valid only on trams. With this ticket you can transfer to other trams during the validity time of the ticket. If you have a discount group Travel Card (child, student, pensioner or disabled), press 1. The price of a Helsinki internal value ticket (purchased by pressing 1) purchased with a discount group Travel Card is the same or lower than the price of a tram value ticket (purchased by pressing 0).

 

L= EXTENDED REGION

With button L you can buy tickets that are valid in Espoo, Kauniainen, Vantaa, Kerava, Sipoo and Kirkkonummi. The tickets are not valid in Helsinki and do not include right to travel via Helsinki.

 

3 = WHOLE REGION

With button 3, you can buy tickets valid in Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen, Vantaa, Kerava, Sipoo and Kirkkonummi.

 

 

The journey has been paid for when the green light appears and the reader beeps (one beep = internal ticket, two beeps = regional ticket).

  

Making a transfer

When changing vehicles, show the card to the card reader in order to register your transfer but do not press any of the buttons. The ticket is valid if the green light appears and the card reader beeps.

 

The card reader’s info display shows the time until which your ticket is valid.

 

Buying multiple value tickets with the same card

You can buy value tickets for several persons belonging to the same customer group (child or adult) as yourself.  Discounts are always personal, i.e. if you have a discount-rate Travel Card, you cannot buy tickets for other people.

 

To buy tickets for several persons (up to 31 tickets), place your card on the card reader as usually and press the desired button. Remove your Travel Card from the card reader for a while between each purchase of a ticket.  Repeat as many times as needed to pay for the number of journeys wanted.

 

Alternatively all tickets can be purchased in one go from the driver. From the driver you can also purchase a child-rate ticket with value loaded on an adult-rate Travel Card or vice versa. Conductors do not sell tickets on Travel Cards.

 

 

Card reader light signals:

• Green light: valid season ticket / journey has been paid / transfer time valid
• Green + yellow light: season ticket valid for three full days or less / less than 6 euros of value left
• Yellow light: Pay to the driver or conductor
• Red light: the card is not valid (season ticket / transfer not valid, other error). See the instructions on the display.
