Traveling on the route is easy as the high-quality buses and stops stand out in the street scene. High frequency, traffic signal priorities and electronic passenger information ensure the reliability of the service.

Once completed, Jokeri 2 will provide a speedy crosstown service. The new route will also provide easy access to the Paloheinä recreation area. In the near future, the goal is to increase the modal share of public transport on crosstown journeys. In a longer term, it is possible to extend the route from Myyrmäki to Matinkylä.

Buses will operate on all days of the week
There are 51 pairs of stops along the route of Jokeri 2. Jokeri 2 is based on the current Helsinki internal bus route 78 (Vuosaari-Mellunmäki-Kontula-Malmi), which will be extended from Malmi via Tapaninvainio and Paloheinä to the new residential area of Kuninkaantammi and further to Myyrmäki.

HSL is responsible for tendering the contracts for the service, for timetable planning and passenger information. According to preliminary plans, Jokeri 2 will operate on all days of the week. The operating hours will be from 5.30am to 11pm on weekdays, 6am to 11pm on Saturdays and 7.30am to 11pm on Sundays. The bus will run every 8 minutes during weekday peak times and every 12 minutes during daytime.  On Saturdays and Sundays, the bus will run every 15 minutes, and at late night every 20 minutes.

Construction work to start in 2013
Implementation of the Jokeri 2 route requires a bus tunnel under the Central Park, from Paloheinä to Kuninkaantammi. The tunnel excavation near the Paloheinä hiking lodge will begin in early 2013.

In the planning of the tunnel, special attention has been paid to landscape and the environment. The mouths of the tunnel and rescue routes have been planned so that the impacts of the tunnel on the Central Park are minimized as far as possible.  The bus tunnel is financed by HKL. The cost estimate of the project is about EUR 30 million.

Public transport street to Paloheinä
The establishment of the high-quality bus service requires also improvements to the street network and bus stops.  A new public transport street will be created in Paloheinä parallel to Kuusmiehentie because Kuusmiehentie cannot handle the daily operation of the Jokeri route. The street will also improve the flow of traffic and reliability of timetables.
