Pensioners

Pensioners who use a personal Travel Card are, under certain conditions, entitled to purchase tickets at a reduced rate.  The discount is applicable for regional period and value tickets and city internal period and value tickets. The customer group entitling the passenger to the discount is registered on the Travel Card at the moment of purchase at a service point. The customer group can also be changed at a service point.

The following groups are entitled to the discount

1. Pensioner, reduced national penstion: permanent residents in the validity area of HSL’s regional tickets receiving a reduced national pension from Kela (The Finnish Social Insurance Institution). 
2. Pensioners, full national pension: permanent residents in the validity area of HSL’s regional tickets receiving a full national pension from Kela and people receiving a special assistance for immigrants from Kela.

Pensioners receiving full national pension belong to discount group 2 (50% discount), others to discount group 1 (25% discount).

Documents needed when applying for or renewing a Travel Card

1. Card user’s official identification document (an official identity card, passport, driver’s license, Kela card with a photograph). 
2. A certificate from Kela that shows you receive national pension / full national pension / special assistance for immigrants. The certificate must be issued not earlier than three months prior to the application.

National pensions are available as

1. Kela's old-age pension for persons aged 65 years and over and early old-age pension for persons aged 62 years and over 
2. Kela's disability pension or rehabilitation subsidy for persons incapable of work aged 64 years and under  
3. Kela's unemployment pension for long-term unemployed born before 1950 or aged 60 to 64 years, who do not receive disability pension or early old-age pension under the National Pension Act.

Validity of the customer group

The customer group is valid for three years.  If the right to a national pension or special assistance for immigrants is for a fixed term, the customer group is valid until the expiry date of the national pension period or period for receiving a special assistance for immigrants.
