Pensioners

Pensioners who use a personal Travel Card are, under certain conditions, entitled to purchase tickets at a reduced rate. The discount is applicable for regional season and value tickets and city internal season and value tickets. The customer group entitling the passenger to the discount is registered on the Travel Card at the moment of purchase at a service point. The customer group can also be changed at a service point.

The following groups are entitled to the discount

1. Pensioners, reduced national pension: permanent residents in the HSL area receiving a reduced national pension from Kela (The Finnish Social Insurance Institution) who are not entitled to guarantee pension.
2. Pensioners, guarantee pension: permanent residents in the HSL area receiving a full or reduced guarantee pension from Kela.

Pensioners receiving guarantee pension belong to discount group 2 (50% discount), others to discount group 1 (25% discount).

Documents needed when applying for or renewing a Travel Card

1. Card user’s official identification document (an official identity card, passport, driver’s license, Kela card with a photograph). 
2. A certificate from Kela that shows you receive reduced national pension / guarantee pension. The certificate must be issued no earlier than three months prior to the application.

Validity of the customer group

The customer group is valid for three years. If the right to national pension or guarantee pension is for a fixed term, the customer group is valid until the expiry date stated on the certificate from Kela.
