Travel Card to be introduced in Sipoo 1 January 2012

Sipoo will join HSL in the beginning of 2012. HSL’s third zone will expand to cover Sipoo and HSL’s season and value tickets loaded on the Travel Card will be introduced on bus services in Sipoo.

Especially those who use feeder connections to public transport in the rest of the HSL area are encouraged to purchase HSL’s Travel Card. Ticket prices will go down and passengers will be able to use one card for all journeys. The travel costs of a person living in Sipoo who uses public transport regularly will decrease on average by EUR 45 per month.

One card for all journeys

HSL’s Travel Card is valid in the HSL area on buses, the Metro, commuter trains, trams and the Suomenlinna ferry. The prices of tickets loaded on the card depend on the area within which you travel.

You can get a personal HSL Travel Card from service points to be opened in the Nikkilä and Söderkulla libraries. The service points will be opened on 19 December. If you want to purchase the card already, you can visit HSL’s service point in Itäkeskus or at the Central Railway Station, or at one of the Citizens' Offices in Espoo or Vantaa.

You will need with you an official ID document and EUR 5 for the card charge. You get the card on the spot and it is ready for use once you have loaded it with a season ticket or money for purchasing value tickets on buses.

If you already have an HSL Travel Card, you can continue to use it after the turn of the year without any changes. You can load the new tickets on your card beginning from 19 December. At the moment, you can purchase tickets valid in the current HSL area.

Sipoo to be part of the third zone

In the beginning of 2012, Sipoo will form the third zone of HSL’s regional ticket area together with Kerava and Kirkkonummi. After the turn of the year, a two-zone extended regional ticket entitles passengers to travel in Sipoo, Kerava, Vantaa, Kirkkonummi, Espoo and Kauniainen. With a three-zone extended regional ticket, you can travel also in Helsinki.

You can compare the prices of different tickets using the price calculator available at our web site. For the moment being, if you live in Sipoo, choose either Kerava or Kirkkonummi as your home municipality.  Sipoo will be added in the menu at the same time as the calculator is updated with the prices for 2012.

Discount tickets

Children aged 7-16 years travel with HSL's child ticket. For Matkahuolto tickets, the age limit is 4-11 years. In addition, discount and free tickets for students, pensioners and invalids will be introduced in Sipoo. Full-time students, pensioners receiving pension from Kela and invalids will be entitled to discounts on season and value tickets. The largest group of discount ticket users are students, who get a discount of 50%. Free tickets are granted to the blind, war veterans and front-veterans.

U line buses to Sipoo

After the turn of the year, buses operating in Sipoo will be so called U line services, on which HSL's season and value tickets loaded on the Travel Card are accepted. HSL’s single tickets will not be accepted on these buses. Single tickets will be based on the distance travelled (Matkahuolto fare) also in the future and they will not include the right to transfer to HSL area public transport services.

There will be no changes to the routes and timetables of bus services in Sipoo at the turn of the year.
