Tram 9 to replace West Terminal buses from 13 August

Public transport connections for travellers to Tallinn will change from 13 August, when tram 9 begins running from Itä-Pasila to the West Terminal via the Central Railway Station. Bus routes 15A and 15V will be withdrawn. Bus 15 will run from Ruoholahti metro station to Salmisaarenranta.

"The opening of the tram link brings significant improvement to the transport connections of this busy terminal," says Arttu Kuukankorpi, Deputy Director of the Public Transport Planning Department. "The tram route will also benefit Jätkäsaari’s new residents, jobs and businesses."

Tram 9 will run on average every ten minutes between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. on weekdays, and according to the arrival and departure times of the ferries at night and during the weekend.

A total of around 4 kilometerse of new track has been laid for tram route 9, following construction which began in 2009. The last rail was in place in 2011, while the power supply station necessary for tram traffic was completed this year. The new route section has a total of 11 stops, 8 of which have canopies. The tram terminus is located directly in front of the terminal building.

Tram 9 offers a rapid and direct link for users of the West Terminal, as well as convenient opportunities for changing to a train at the Central Railway Station or to the Metro at Kamppi or the Central Railway Station Metro station.

A change from the previous route is that the tram no longer turns towards Kolmikulma but continues directly from the city centre to the West Terminal.
