YTV’s last bidding round brings new buses to HSL’s service

YTV’s Executive Board approved in its meeting on 18 December the award of contracts for bus services in YTV’s last bidding round. The new contracts will commence in August 2010. The contracts are concluded in the name of the new joint local authority, Helsinki Region Transport, which begins operating at the turn of the year. In August 64 new, low-emission buses with air-conditioning will be introduced on HLS's bus services. 

The bidding process covered 26 bus routes, consisting of 12 regional bus routes, 1 Espoo internal bus route and 13 Vantaa internal bus routes.  The tendered services require 128 buses on weekdays. Annual route mileage is around 10.8 million.

The price level rises on average by 6%, or EUR 1.5 million per year.  Eight bus operators took part in the bidding submitting a total of 60 bids on operating of the services.
