Additional traffic and diversions for New Year’s Eve in Helsinki
Tram and bus routes operating near Senate Square will be diverted due to New Year celebration at the square. Night buses and the Metro have additional departures.
Additional service
Additional night service will be provided on New Year’s Eve. The Metro operates two hours longer than usually. The last metro from Ruoholahti to Mellunmäki leaves at 1.26am and from Ruoholahti to Vuosaari at 1.21am. The Metro feeder buses operate a normal timetable.
Additional service is provided on bus routes 01N, 02N, 20N, 39A, 40, 64N, 72, 74, 74N, 85N, 90N, 94N and 96N after 00.30am. Also early morning buses have additional service.
Diversions
All vehicle traffic in the vicinity of Senate Square will be stopped at around 6pm due to New Year celebration at the square.
Tram routes 7A and 7B will be diverted from 6pm till the end of service to run along Mannerheimintie/Lasipalatsi - Kaivokatu - Kaisaniemenkatu - Siltasaarenkatu. The trams will not serve Kruunuhaka.
After 8pm, tram route 1A will be diverted to run along Aleksanterinkatu - Mannerheimintie - Kaivokatu - Kaisaniemenkatu.
Bus 16 will be diverted from 6pm till the end of service. The bus will run to both directions along the following route: Erottaja - Mannerheimintie - Kaivokatu - Kaisaniemenkatu - Liisankatu - Pohjoisranta.
All tram traffic in the vicinity of the Senate Square will be stopped around 8pm. After that also tram route 3B, 3T, 4 and 4T will be diverted. Buses 3X and 4X will partially replace the diverted tram services.
Trams 3B and 3T will be diverted beginning from 8pm. Tram 3T will not serve Mikonkatu, Aleksanterinkatu and Eteläranta, and 3B will not serve Tehtaankatu. Both trams will run to the terminus of tram 1A on Pursimiehenkatu and change their route numbers there.
Tram 3B from Kallio will run to Pursimiehenkatu along the following route: Kaivokatu - Mannerheimintie - Bulevardi - Fredrikinkatu - Laivurinkatu - Tehtaankatu - Perämiehenkatu - Pursimiehenkatu. From Pursimiehenkatu/Tehtaankatu, the tram continues under route number 3T to Töölö via Laivurinkatu, Fredrikinkatu, Bulevardki and Simonkatu.
Tram 3T from Kamppi will run to Pursimiehenkatu along the following route: Simonkatu - Mannerheimintie - Bulevardi - Fredrikinkatu - Laivurinkatu - Tehtaankatu - Telakkakatu (Pursimiehenkatu). From Tehtaankatu, the tram will continue under route number 3B to Kallio via Laivurinkatu, Fredrikinkatu, Bulevardi and Mannerheimintie past the Central Railway Station.
The replacing bus service 3X will operate from 7.45pm to 00.30am from Viiskulma to Eteläranta turning around at Kasarmintori. The route of the bus is: Viiskulma - Laivurinkatu - Tehtaankatu - Laivasillankatu - Pohjoinen Makasiinikatu - Fabianinkatu (Kasarmitori) - Eteläinen Makasiinikatu - Eteläranta - Laivasillankatu - Tehtaankatu - Laivurinkatu - Laivurinrinne - Annankatu - Bulevardi - Fredrikinkatu - Viiskulma.
Trams 4 and 4T will run from 8pm along Mannerheimintie - Bulevardi - Hietalahdenkatu - Kalevankatu (terminus of tram 6) - Hietalahdenranta - Bulevardi - Mannerheimintie - regular route.
The replacing bus 4X will operate from 7.45pm to 00.30am. The bus will depart from the stop of bus 24 by Sokos and run along the following route: Postikatu - Kaivokatu - Kaisaniemenkatu - Liisankatu - Mariankatu - Kanavakatu - Satamakatu - Kruunuvuorenkatu - Merikasarminkatu - Merisotilaantori. Bus 4X will return to Mannerheimintie via Pohjoisranta and Liisankatu.
