Opening of the Ring Rail Line

Ring Rail Line opening

Opening day festivities on Wednesday 1 July  

The opening of the Ring Rail Line will be celebrated on Wednesday 1 July. The first I train from Helsinki will leave at 3.59am from track 7 and the first P train at 5.14am from track 17.

HSL and its partners in cooperation will host a range of opening day festivities at the Central Railway Station, Eliel Square (Elielinaukio) and Tikkurila station as well as at the new Leinelä, Aviapolis and Kivistö stations. HSL’s celebration marquee will be set up at the Eliel Square between the Metro and Central Railway Station entrances. HSL’s opening day events will take place approximately between 7am and 6pm. HSL’s Ring Rail Line Pop Up store will sell Ring Rail Line t-shirts for 15 euros. 

VR will host festivities at the main platform area at the Central Railway Station and at Tikkurila station. The City of Vantaa will stage a variety of activities at Kivistö station and the City of Vantaa/Vantaan Markkinointi Oy at Leinelä and Aviapolis stations. A video about the construction of the Ring Rail Line produced by the Finnish Transport Agency will be displayed at all new Ring Rail Line stations.

The Helsinki Airport station will open on 10 July. Soundscape artists Teho Majamäki and Tapani Rinne will perform on trains  as well as at the Aviapolis, Leinelä and Kivistö stations.  

Asema-Aukio Square

HSL’s celebration marquee will be set up at the Asema-aukio Station Square between the Metro and Central Railway Station entrances.

  • Ring Rail Line Pop Up store sells Ring Rail Line t-shirts and canvass bags
  • Ring Rail Line Wheel of Fortune with prizes for those who activate an HSL account
  • Ring Rail Line sweets, balloons and information about the Ring Rail Line and new Vantaa bus network  
  • HSL House Band plays Finnish and international dance pop 3.30pm-4.30pm

Central Railway Station

VR will host festivities at the main platform area at the Central Railway Station 10am-6pm.

  • Wheel of Fortune with prizes
  • VR sweets and information about the Ring Rail Line
  • A jazz band performs at 10.30am, 2pm and 3.30pm
  • For children: Myyrä, Kissalan Hessu and Risto Räppääjä

Tikkurila

VR will host festivities at the Tikkurila station 10am-5pm

  • Drawing competition for children
  • Sweets and information about the Ring Rail Line
  • For children: Myyrä, Kissalan Hessu and Risto Räppääjä

Leinelä

Vantaan markkinointi Oy/City of Vantaa will stage activities at the Leinelä station together with local land owners and other partners in cooperation from 10am to 6pm.

Aviapolis

Vantaan markkinointi Oy/City of Vantaa will host festivities at the Aviapolis station.

Southern entrance:

  • Cake on offer for the first 250 visitors provided by Fazer
  • Test drive an electric car (Nissan, several cars)
  • Publication of photos submitted in the neighborhood model competition and voting on the favorite 1 – 31 July
  • Magician

Northern entrance

Kivistö

The City of Vantaa will host festivities at the station 11.45am-6pm hosted by Matti Airaksinen.

  • Street dance with music by Marko Haavisto and Poutahaukat 4pm-6pm

For children:

  • Driverless buses
  • Police car and fire engine
  • Stone painting

There will be food stalls and information stands of, for example, the City of Vantaa, developers and House Fair. In addition, it will be possible to paint graffiti on the Aurinkokivi construction site fence. The City of Vantaa invites graffiti artists to paint the fence. Fira Oy will set up a plywood fence of about 30 meters for the purposes of painting at the corner of Ruusukvartsinkatu. You can participate in the painting 1 July to 9 August.
