New section of metro line from Matinkylä to Kivenlahti to open on 3 December 2022

Metro services from Matinkylä to Kivenlahti will start on Saturday 3 December. The new section of metro line will provide direct journeys from western Espoo to the Helsinki city center for more people than ever. The metro and new bus routes will improve transport links within Espoo as well as between Espoo and Helsinki.

Metro services in the future

Five new metro stations will open when the new section of line becomes operational. The new stations are Finnoo, Kaitaa, Soukka, Espoonlahti and Kivenlahti.

The metro will run between Matinkylä and Kivenlahti every six minutes during weekday peak hours. The stations are important interchanges and they have Park and Ride facilities for both cars and bikes.

Buy your ticket in advance

You can easily buy your ticket on the HSL app and pay it with your payment card. The Journey Planner on the HSL app finds you the best route. It also knows which ticket you will need for your journey. New stations are in zone C

The new stations (Finnoo, Kaitaa, Soukka, Espoonlahti and Kivenlahti) are located in zone C. Matinkylä is the last station in zone B. For journeys within Espoo, you need a BC ticket. If your journey begins or ends in Helsinki, you need an ABC ticket.

Changes to bus services in western Espoo in February 2023

Bus services in western Espoo will remain unchanged for two months after the opening of the metro line to Kivenlahti. New feeder bus routes will be introduced on 6 February 2023.

The new bus routes will be introduced in phases as new trunk bus routes will start in August 2023.
