Moderate increases to season ticket prices and cuts to the prices of annual tickets and senior citizens season tickets from 14 January

The price for adult 30-day season tickets will increase by EUR 3 on 14 January. There will be no increase in the price of single tickets and day tickets. The prices for annual tickets, auto-renewing saver subscriptions and season tickets for those aged 70 or over will decrease.

In many cases, a season ticket is a more economical option than single tickets, as a 30-day season ticket will be cheaper if you make more than three return journeys per week. It is therefore a good idea to add together your work and leisure journeys when considering which ticket is best for you.

Harmonization of season tickets and day tickets available on the HSL app and HSL card

We are standardizing our ticket selection so that the season tickets available are the same for the HSL card and the HSL app.

  • From 14 January onwards, you can purchase season tickets for 14, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 210, 240, 270 and 360 days on your HSL card.
  • Initially, the HSL app will be offering season tickets for 14, 30, 60 and 90 days. Season tickets for longer periods will be available on the app from February.
  • The range of day tickets available will expand in February. In addition to the current 1–7 day tickets, you will be able to buy tickets for 8–13 days via the HSL app. Later on, these day tickets will also be available on the HSL card.  You can create for yourself a package of season tickets and day tickets that suits you best. A day ticket can be a good option if your need for commuting has reduced due to remote work or if you are actively travelling at weekends.

Approximately 70% of season tickets purchased are for either 14 or 30 days. However, if you are accustomed to counting precisely the number of days you intend to travel, the change will understandably be undesired. Our new practice is already in use in a number of other services, and so in the future HSL season tickets will also only be sold for 30 days and for multiples of 30. Tickets can, however, be also purchased for a period of 14 days.

The cheapest way to get a season ticket: buy an auto-renewing saver subscription or annual ticket

The prices for annual tickets (360-day season tickets) and auto-renewing saver subscriptions will fall on 14 January. They are the cheapest way to get a season ticket. A season ticket that is valid all the time is also convenient as it enables you to travel without having to remember to purchase a new ticket  or consider the price of the journey every time you travel.

An auto-renewing saver subscription is a worry-free option, as the ticket is automatically valid in the HSL app without requiring any separate top ups. The ticket will be charged to your payment card automatically every 30 days. An auto-renewing saver subscription is currently only available for adults and only in the HSL app.

The discount for an annual ticket will be increasing, which means you will be able to get a season ticket for 360 days for the cost of approximately 10 months, rather than the current 11 months. The ticket is loaded onto your HSL card and you pay the ticket price in one go at the time of purchase.

If you cancel a 360-day season ticket in the middle of the period, or if you cancel an auto-renewing saver subscription before the 12th payment, you will be charged a cancellation fee that is set based on the ticket type:

  • AB, BC and D tickets, EUR 39
  • ABC, CD, BCD and ABCD tickets, EUR 52
  • ABCD tickets, EUR 79.

The annual ticket is particularly affordable for those who can buy season tickets on the HSL card at a discounted rate. Children, pensioners, people with reduced mobility and those aged 70 or over can get an annual AB ticket for less than EUR 1 per day. Read more about discount groups.

New discount ticket for those aged 70 and over

From 14 January, people aged 70 and over will be able to buy season tickets at a 45 per cent discount. At the same time, the time-based discount on single tickets and zone extension tickets will be withdrawn.

Season tickets enable unlimited travel at all times at a low cost.

  • For example, a 30-day AB ticket for people aged 70+ will cost EUR 34.50, which means that it will be more economical than single tickets if you make more than six return journeys a month.
  • If you buy in one go an AB ticket for the whole year, you will get it for EUR 29 per month, which amounts to less than EUR 1 per day.

Season tickets also for children aged 7 to 12 years in the HSL app: From 14 January, season tickets for children aged 7 to 12 will be available on the HSL app, provided that the child has their own banking credential. The ticket can also be paid with a parent’s payment card.

We will be updating our conditions of carriage, ticket terms and conditions, general terms of use and privacy statement on 14 January

The new terms and conditions will be available on our website in English by the end of the year.

Changes to refund rules for season tickets. In the future, we will only refund the unused period of a season ticket if you cancel a 360-day season ticket or if you change the validity area of your season ticket. In these situations, we will refund all remaining unused 30-day periods. For example, if you have 35 days left you will receive a refund for 30 days. Or if there are 82 days left, we will refund you for 60 days.
