Do you use mobile payment? Update HSL app to version 4.8.0

Update the HSL app on your phone to the latest version (4.8.0) to continue using mobile payment for purchasing tickets also in 2023. If you have selected to charge mobile payments to your phone bill, the maximum amount of ticket purchases is EUR 50.

HSL will introduce a payment method fee for mobile payments on 1 January 2023

The share of the payment method fee is 1.6% of the price of the ticket purchased. For example, a payment method fee of EUR 0.02, i.e. two cents, will be added to the price of a single AB ticket for children (EUR 1.60). For an adult AB single ticket, the payment method fee is EUR 0.04.

The reason for introducing the payment method fee is that the commission we pay for mobile payments to phone operators is significantly larger than the commission paid for other payment methods.

You can also pay for your tickets using a payment card connected to the HSL app, as well as with MobilPay and Pivo. Additionally, you can also use Edenred, Epassi and Smartum to pay for tickets. No payment method fee is charged for the above-mentioned payment methods.

In February 2022, we conducted a customer survey on the payment methods used on the HSL app. 56 percent of the respondents said that they pay for their tickets with a payment card on the HSL app, whereas 24 percent had selected to charge mobile payments to their phone bill. The share of other payment methods, that is, MobilePay, Pivo and different commuter benefits, is 20 percent of all payments. The customers who answered the survey and took part in the interviews were of the opinion that introducing the payment method fee for mobile payments was a better alternative than discontinuing the mobile payment as a payment method.
