With room for as many as 216 passengers, M/S Emma has a capacity that is significantly larger than that of the current vessel M/S Amiraali. The seating area on the lower deck has room for 106 passengers, while the upper deck has a terrace area with tables for 110 passengers.
The ferry service between Kruunuvuorenranta in Laajasalo and Meritullintori in Kruununhaka was launched on Monday 1 May. Over 116,000 passengers have so far used the ferry service. On average, the ferry has carried nearly 30,000 passengers every month.
The ferry service has been popular with passengers. According to a study carried out by HSL in August, 94 percent of the respondents thought that the ferry is pleasant. The majority of the respondents were also of the opinion that the ferry makes travelling faster.

In the winter, it will operate Monday to Friday about 7am to 10pm. The ferry runs approximately every 50 minutes. On winter weekends, the ferry will operate about 10am to 6pm. You need to have an HSL ticket for zones AB to board the ferry.
According to estimate, the ferry will switch to winter timetables in the beginning of November. The vessel used during the winter timetable period is M/S Tor.
Suomenlinnan liikenne Oy, a subsidiary of Kaupunkiliikenne Oy, is responsible for the ferry service. The service is operated jointly by Sun Ferry and JT-Line. The ferry service will continue to operate until the Crown Bridges are finished.
