Metro services through Helsinki city center
The Central Railway Station Metro Station will be closed from 3 June to 1 September due to work to improve fire safety at the station. The Metro will not run through the station. Trains from the direction of Espoo will terminate at Kamppi station and trains from the direction of East Helsinki will terminate at the University of Helsinki station.
The Kamppi and University of Helsinki stations are close enough to walk between or take a tram. Tram 9 and Metro replacement tram 9B run via the "Hakaniemi", "Kaisaniemenkatu", "Rautatieasema" (Central Railway Station) and "Simonkatu" tram stops. At the University of Helsinki station, the trams stop at the “Kaisaniemenkatu” stop, while the stop closest to the Kamppi station is “Simonkatu”.
In addition to improving fire safety, the work includes enhancing the appearance of the Central Railway Station Metro Station, for example, by installing new lighting.
The Metro will run between the University of Helsinki and Itäkeskus every five minutes and between Kamppi and Kivenlahti every 6 minutes at the busiest times. In Espoo, all trains will run to Kivenlahti. Metro trains from Espoo will terminate at Kamppi station.
