Multi-user HSL cards to be discontinued

The use of multi-user HSL cards will end. In the future, all tickets will be personal. If you have a multi-user HSL card, use up any remaining value you have on the card as soon as possible and then start using the free HSL app on your phone. If you have a personal HSL card, you can continue using it as usual.

A multi-user HSL card is intended for shared use as it can be used by anyone belonging to the same customer group. The cards have been used for instance by employees to pay for journeys made during the workday as well as by educational institutions and families. The cards have functioned the same way as personal HSL cards.

The number of multi-user HSL cards that are currently in use is significantly lower compared to the number of personal HSL cards. The personal cards will remain in use as usual.

How do I know if I have a multi-user HSL card?

You can check which card you have here. Multi-user HSL cards and personal HSL cards do not differ in their visual appearance. If you use the same HSL card with some other person, the card is most likely a multi-user card. You can also determine which type of card you have by using a ticket machine or checking the receipt the machine prints out for you.

I have a multi-user HSL card – what should I do?

We recommend that you use up any remaining value you have on the card as soon as possible and then start using the HSL app. You’ll find all the tickets you need in the app. You can also use the app to purchase tickets for your fellow passengers and children. You can download the app from your app store free of charge.

Please note that personal HSL cards will not be discontinued. If you wish to continue using an HSL card, replace the multi-user HSL card you have by purchasing a personal HSL card at the HSL service point or municipal service points (5 euros will be charged for a new card). You can also transfer any value you might have on your multi-user card to your personal HSL card at the HSL service point (a service fee of 1 euro will be charged).

My children use the multi-user HSL card – what ticket options do they have?

A child between the age of 7 and 17 years can download the HSL app to their phone free of charge and use the app to purchase single, day and season tickets. In order to be able to purchase a season ticket, the child must have an HSL account of their own that is created in the HSL app by means of strong authentication. In other words, the child must have their own online banking credentials or mobile ID in order to be able to create an HSL account.

You can also purchase a personal HSL card (€5) for a child. The card can be topped up with season tickets or value for buying single tickets. You can purchase a personal HSL card at the HSL service point or municipal service points. The card can be topped up with value or season tickets online via the HSL card service or by using a ticket machine or visiting a sales point.

Corporate customers and educational institutions

If you are a corporate customer, switch to using the HSL Business Portal and provide your employees with tickets they can use directly via the HSL app. The HSL Business Portal is an easy-to-use online service for companies and communities. The portal can be used for ordering, issuing and managing your personnel’s commuter benefits and tickets for business travel. Employees can use the tickets and benefits they have been issued with via the portal on the HSL app without any delay. If you are an employee, please talk to your employer about products that you can use instead of the multi-user cards.

In the future, teachers or other adults accompanying school groups on public transport have to pay for their journeys for example with a ticket code instead of the multi-user HSL card.

Why and when will the multi-user HSL card be discontinued?

We are in the process of implementing a new ticket background system. The new system entails a more straightforward ticket range which will no longer feature separate multi-user and personal HSL cards. Instead, every customer will have a personal HSL account.

Once the new system is in use, multi-user HSL cards can no longer be used. We will inform our customers of the exact date when the multi-user cards stop working at least two months in advance. However, we recommend that all multi-user card holders replace their card with some other option as soon as possible.
