The University of Helsinki station is not designed for large passenger volumes and the escalators and lifts may get crowded especially during the busiest hours of the morning and afternoon. You can easily change from the Metro to tram at Hakaniemi Metro Station. Trams 9 and 9B run from Hakaniemi to Kamppi Metro Station. If you are traveling from the direction of Kamppi, take a tram to Hakaniemi and change to the Metro there.
The Metro does now fill up at the University of Helsinki station, but the potential congestion is mainly due to the capacity of escalators and lifts and the number of passengers that can be safely accommodated on the platform at the same time. During peak hours, access to the platform area must therefore be restricted for safety reasons.
Kontula and Myllypuro Metro Stations reopened on Monday 5 August. Mellunmäki and Central Railway Station Metro Stations remain closed and there is no Metro service between the University of Helsinki and Kamppi.
The Metro works are progressing as planned. The Central Railway Station Metro Station is set to reopen on Monday 2 September. Normal service frequency will also resume on 2 September. Mellunmäki Metro Station will reopen a week later, on Monday 9 September.
