The discounted price for a day pass for those who have purchased a VR train ticket is €4 (normal price €5), while a week pass costs €7.50 (normal price €10). The offer applies to the city bikes in Helsinki and Espoo. You will receive a promo code when you buy a ticket via the VR Matkalla app for a train journey which starts or ends at a train station within the city bike area. These stations comprise all train stations in Helsinki and the stations in Leppävaara and Mäkkylä in Espoo.
“One of the central goals of city bikes is to make the use of public transport smoother. This is why passengers often use the bikes at the beginning and end of their journey. Trains and bikes make for a great combination that is worth trying,” says Samuli Mäkinen, Sustainable Mobility Expert at HSL.
You can use a city bike up to an hour at a time. If you use a bike for more than an hour at a time, you will be charged one euro for each additional 30 minutes. There are nearly 4,600 bikes and 460 bike stations in Helsinki and Espoo.
“We are happy to once again offer our customers the opportunity to use the city bikes in Helsinki and Espoo at a discounted price. It’s easy to continue your journey from a train station on a city bike, and the bikes provide you with many options to explore the urban environment. Additionally, returning and picking up a bike is really easy,” says Marika Schugk, Director of Customer Experience and Service Development at VR.
The offer is valid throughout the entire city bike season (1 April to 31 October). For more information on the offer, please visit VR’s web page. You can activate the promo code and buy a pass on our city bike page. The page also contains instructions on how to use the bikes.
