Access to Kaisantunneli Bicycle Garage only with registered HSL cards and PIN or Android phone

From 10 June, using the Kaisantunneli Bicycle Garage in Helsinki city center will require cyclists to be registered users of HSL's Bike Parking Service. Registration requires an HSL account and strong authentication. Registered users can access the Bicycle Garage using either their HSL card along with a PIN code or the HSL Bike Parking identifier, which can be added to Google Wallet for Android devices. This registration and authentication process enhances the safety of using the Bicycle Garage. Additionally, the option to use the Google Wallet identifier provides users with more ways to access the facility.

Previously, access to the Bicycle Garage has been controlled by HSL cards. Cyclists have been able to enter the facility by simply tapping their HSL card on the card reader at the door. All HSL cards have been accepted, and no registration has been required to use the Bicycle Garage.

Starting 10 June, access to the Bicycle Garage will be restricted to those who have registered for the HSL Bike Parking Service and chosen an identifier. This identifier can be either your HSL card with a PIN code or the HSL Bike Parking identifier. These changes will enhance safety by requiring all users to register and authenticate. Additionally, the new option to access the Bicycle Garage using an Android device will provide more flexibility. Please note that those who have previously used the Bicycle Garage must also register.

We encourage you to start using the new HSL Bike Parking Service as soon as possible, ideally before 10 June. Until 10 June, you can access the Bicycle Garage either as before with your HSL card without registration, or using your HSL card and a PIN code, or using the Google Wallet HSL Bike Parking identifier if you have registered for the Bike Parking service.

A suitable solution is being sought to enable iOS users to access the Bicycle Garage using their phones. The goal is to make this option available as soon as possible.

The HSL Bike Parking Service is a Park & Ride service for bicycles that allows the use of Bicycle Garages maintained by HSL's partners. Currently, the only Bicycle Garage available is the Kaisantunneli Bicycle Garage. The access control system for this facility has been developed as a pilot project in collaboration with the Metropolitan Area Transport and other partners. The goal of this collaboration is to facilitate travel by offering cyclists a secure space for bike parking. The safety of bike storage plays a significant role in encouraging cyclists to use their bikes to reach public transport stops. HSL's Bicycle Parking service is intended to be used in future potential Bicycle Garages as well. The pilot aims to create solutions that can be replicated at other Bike & Ride locations in the future. The Kaisantunneli Bicycle Garage is owned and maintained by Metropolitan Area Transport.
