Study on short public transport journeys to be extended; 20-minute tickets to be withdrawn on 9 June

The 20-minute tickets available for purchase via the HSL app for people living in postcode areas 00120, 00150, 00510, and 00550 are part of our study on short public transport journeys. We will extend the study period until 8 June. Buy and use your short journey ticket during 8 June. The tickets will be withdrawn from sale on 9 June.

The study on short public transport journeys was originally scheduled to conclude on 15 May. However, we have decided to extend the study by approximately three weeks, until 8 June. As a result, the 20-minute single tickets related to the study will be available for purchase until Sunday, 8 June. If you buy a ticket on Sunday, 8 June, please also activate it the same day. Once tickets are withdrawn from sale, previously purchased tickets cannot be activated. The tickets will be withdrawn from sale on 9 June.

Our aim is to assess the demand for short public transport journeys and track the number and types of journeys made using the 20-minute ticket. Initially, the tickets were valid for 10 minutes, but on 15 April, we extended the validity period to 20 minutes.

“We extended the validity period of the ticket to be able to determine if the validity period impacts the use of the ticket. Since we are now studying short public transport journeys for a longer period than originally planned, the 20-minute tickets will be available for purchase for nearly the same length of time as the 10-minute tickets, allowing us to gather more comparable data,” says Head of Unit Rauno Särkkäaho.

The extension of the study period means that 20-minute tickets will be available for purchase for a slightly longer period than previously announced. There will be no other changes to the ticket purchase process.

Read more about the study in our earlier news release and see detailed instructions for using the tickets.
