Tram map redesign – Take our survey

We are redesigning the Helsinki tram map this spring and summer. You can have your say on the development of the map by taking our survey.

The tram map is a traditional and popular method for displaying current tram routes. We use the map as part of passenger information on our website, at tram stops, and inside the trams. We are currently updating the map to improve communications about route changes. The development of the map is also motivated by the upcoming expansion of the tram network to Laajasalo.

Our tram map is a schematic, simplified representation of tram routes. For example, the routes are straightened, and the distances between stops do not accurately reflect reality. The goal is to present the tram network in a way that makes it easy to find a specific tram service, follow its route on the map, and identify suitable transfer stops. For more detailed navigation, we recommend using the HSL app and the Journey Planner available at hsl.fi, as they show streets and exact stop locations.

We prioritized clarity and readability in the development of the map. We tested various line styles and font sizes, as readability is essential, especially in areas where multiple routes intersect. One of the most noticeable updates is the addition of key landmarks to assist with city orientation.

New map also displayed at stops

The new map is displayed at several key stops. You can see the map at both tram stops at the Central Railway Station (bay 41, H0301 and bay 42, H0302), and at the Pasila sation stops on Pasilansilta (bay 32, H0665 and  bay 34, H0664). In East Pasila, the map is also displayed at the “Asemapäällikönkatu” stops (H0611 and H0619).

You can provide feedback on the map by completing the survey available at hsl.fi/ratikkakartta. You can give feedback on the map even if you have only viewed it in electronic form.  Your responses will help us enhance the information available at tram stops and on trams. The survey takes about five minutes to complete.

We will further develop the map based on the feedback received. The new map will be more widely available this summer.
