No train services between Huopalahti and Myyrmäki for two months in summer 2026 due to station renovations

In the summer of 2026, train services will be completely suspended between Huopalahti and Myyrmäki for approximately two months, as the Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd carries out major renovations at three railway stations under its management. I and P trains will run between Helsinki, Tikkurila, Helsinki Airport and Myyrmäki in both directions. Rail replacement buses will replace the missing train services.

During the disruption, trains will not stop at Malminkartano, Kannelmäki and Pohjois-Haaga stations. In addition to the disruption that will take place in the summer of 2026, trains will pass Malminkartano station without stopping for approximately 1–2 months, operating on a single track. During this time, trains will run every 20 minutes instead of the usual 10 minutes.

HSL is currently planning the rail replacement services. The exact duration and timing of the temporary arrangements will be confirmed as the planning progresses.

Improvements at three stations

As a result of the renovation work, the overall appearance, atmosphere and safety of Malminkartano, Kannelmäki and Pohjois-Haaga stations will significantly improve compared to their current state.

At Malminkartano station, the concrete and rock structures at the station will be repaired and the murals in the tunnel will be replaced. All the benches, waste bins and plantings at the station and the exterior light fixtures of the train tunnel will be replaced. The light fixtures inside the tunnel were replaced in the summer of 2024.

At Kannelmäki station, the area surrounding the station building will be improved together with the Urban Environment Division. The Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd is responsible for the repair of the bridge over the rail tracks, the elevators and stairs, as well as the platform area and its canopy, and for the potential demolition of the old station building.

At Pohjois-Haaga station, the platform area and the related technical systems will be refurbished. The light fixtures on the platform and its surface will also be refurbished, and the waterproofing of the platform structures will be repaired. The materials of the canopy and walls will be refurbished and replaced, if needed. The technical systems in the station building will be improved, along with other structures, if necessary. Preliminary work will be carried out at the station at the beginning of 2026, but it will not affect train services. At the same time, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency will also renovate the railway bridge located next to the station.

Track work to also impact train services to and from Espoo

In the summer of 2026, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency will also renovate the railway bridge over Hämeenlinnanväylä between Huopalahti and Ilmala stations. As a result, in addition to the Ring Rail Line, A train services are also expected to be disrupted at Valimo, Pitäjänmäki, and Mäkkylä stations from early June until August, according to the current estimate.

In addition, train services west of Leppävaara will be completely suspended for five weeks after Midsummer due to the construction of the Espoo Rail Line, in a similar manner as in the summers of 2024 and 2025.
