Delays and disruptions to public transport in downtown Helsinki on Thursday 16 May and Friday 17 May

The meeting of the European Council taking place at Finlandia Hall is expected to cause significant delays and disruptions to bus and tram services in downtown Helsinki on Thursday 16 May and Friday 17 May. In addition, Helsinki City Running Day will cause major diversions to public transport on Saturday 18 May (read more: link to a separate bulletin).

Trams as well as buses operating from Elielinaukio and Kamppi, which run along Mannerheimintie past Finlandia Hall, will be affected the most. Delays and disruptions are expected in particular on Thursday 16 May from 3pm through to the evening and on Friday from approximately 11am to the early evening.

Mannerheimintie will be closed to traffic at times in front of Finlandia Hall because of motorcares in both directions. In addition, motorcades will be traveling around the capital region. Delays to traffic are also expected on roads between Helsinki Airport and Helsinki city center, as well as around some hotels. The police estimates that traffic will be stopped for up to 20 minutes at a time in some places.

During the meeting, the Metro, commuter trains and Suomenlinna ferry are expected to run as usual.

For security reasons, the exact routes and times of the motorcades are not published in advance. We will inform passengers of any disruptions to services online at hsl.fi as well as via the Disruption Info service.
