Changes to metro timetables and train stopping point at Itäkeskus station from 6 April

The metro timetables will change on Tuesday 6 April. The metro will revert to the previous timetables before and after morning and evening peaks. Full timetables are available on the Journey Planner. At the same time, the stopping point of eastbound trains at Itäkeskus metro station will change. The new stopping point will be next to the escalators leading to the shopping center.

Changes to weekday timetables

There will be no changes to the peak time service frequency. Metro service will revert to pre-coronavirus epidemic timetables before and after morning and evening peaks. In other words, the extended frequent service introduced in autumn 2020 will no longer be available. There will be no changes to late evening and early morning timetables. From 6 April, the metro will operate with peak time frequencies of 2.5 minutes between Itäkeskus and Tapiola and 5 minutes to Vuosaari, Mellunmäki and Matinkylä from 6.30am to 9.30am and 2pm to 6.30pm. From 9.30am to 2pm and from 6.30pm to 8pm, the metro will run every 4 minutes between Itäkeskus and Tapiola and every 7.5 minutes to Vuosaari, Mellunmäki and Matinkylä.

During the coronavirus epidemic, passenger numbers on the metro have been significantly lower than before the epidemic at all times of the day. Passenger numbers have fallen most sharply during peak times.

Changes to weekend timetables

There will be minor changes to weekend timetables to improve connections to Matinkylä. On Saturdays, the 10.57pm service from Mellunmäki will run to Matinkylä instead of Tapiola and on Sundays, the 7.45am service from Tapiola to Mellunmäki will depart from Matinkylä at 7.39am.

New train stopping point at Itäkeskus metro station

The stopping point of eastbound trains at Itäkeskus station will change. The new stopping point will be next to the escalators leading to the shopping center. There are stickers on the platform edge which indicate where the metro does not stop.

The new stopping point is closer to the lift to the bus terminal at the west end of the station. In the future, the rear doors of the last metro car will open next to the lift at the west end of the platform.

The new stopping point will be next to the escalators leading to the shopping center. The lift is on the right hand side of the image. The metro will stop 20 meters further to the west. The yellow marking indicates where the metro does not stop. The arrow indicates the direction of travel (towards Vuosaari and Mellunmäki).
