Blasting work for the construction of Kaisa Tunnel to commence at the Helsinki Central Railway Station on 5 May

Blasting work for the construction of Kaisa Tunnel, a pedestrian and cycle tunnel from Töölönlahdenkatu to Kaisaniemi Park, will commence at the Helsinki Central Railway Station on Wednesday 5 May. The works will affect passengers using platforms 16, 17, 18 and 19. The platforms will be closed for a short period of time three times a day to ensure passenger safety. Trains will not arrive at platforms 16–19 during the closures. The platforms are used by commuter train A, E, I and P to Espoo and Myyrmäki.

Blasting work for the construction of Kaisa Tunnel will commence at the Helsinki Central Railway Station on Wednesday 5 May. The works will affect passengers using platforms 16, 17, 18 and 19. The platforms will be closed for a short period of time three times a day to ensure passenger safety. Trains will not arrive at platforms 16–19 during the closures.

The blasting work will commence at the site on the Töölönlahdenkatu side of the station. The first blasts will be done between 5 May and 7 May at 10.39pm–10.48pm, 1.35am–1.50am and 4.25am–4.41am.

From Monday 10 May, blasting will be carried out three times a day at the following times:

  • Between 10.48am and 10.58am
  • 1.48pm to 1.53pm
  • 5.38pm to 5.43pm
  • In addition, the time slot between 1.23pm and 1.38pm is reserved for the works

The works will continue until 4 June.

Passengers will be notified of the blasting activities as follows:

  • Prior to blasting, an intermittent warning beep will sound, alerting people in the area.
  • Traffic wardens will restrict access to the platforms and guide passengers before each blast.
  • Please follow the instructions of the traffic wardens for your safety and the safety of others.
