Changes to R and T train services at night Sunday to Friday in January to March – service disruption and bus replacements between Kerava and Järvenpää and between Kerava and Riihimäki

R and T trains will not run between Kerava and Riihimäki on weekday nights between 0.25am and 4.20am 21 January to 23 February and 11 March to 28 March. Moreover, there will be disruptions to R and T train services between Kerava and Riihimäki on the nights of Monday 5 February and Monday 4 March. Trains will be replaced by bus 969X.

R and T trains will not run between Kerava and Riihimäki on weekday nights between 0.25am and 4.20am 21 January to 23 February and 11 March to 28 March due to track work. The service changes will be in place on Sunday to Thursday nights, i.e. on Friday and Saturday nights the trains will run as usual. The service changes will be in place for the first time on the night of Sunday 21 January/Monday 22 January. The service changes will be in place for the last time on the night of Wednesday 27 March/Thursday 28 March.

There will be changes to train services between Kerava and Riihimäki due to monthly track maintenance on the nights of Monday 5 February and Monday 4 March.

Changes to R and T train services 21 January–23 February and 11–28 March

There will be changes to R and T train services between Kerava and Järvenpää due to the works to increase the capacity on the Helsinki–Riihimäki rail line.

From the direction of Helsinki

  • The 0.40am R train from Helsinki will terminate at Kerava station.
    • Replacement bus 969X will depart from Kerava at 1.08am and run via Ainola to Järvenpää. From Järvenpää, there is an R train to Riihimäki at 1.30am.
  • The 1.51am T train from Helsinki will terminate at Kerava station.
    • Replacement bus 969X will depart from Kerava at 2.34am and run via Ainola to Järvenpää. From Järvenpää, there is an T train to Riihimäki at 3.04am.

From the direction of Riihimäki

  • The 2.55am T train from Riihimäki will depart earlier than normal at 2.33am and terminate at Järvenpää station.
    • Replacement bus 969X will depart from Järvenpää at 3.09amam and run via Ainola to Kerava. There is a T train from Kerava to Helsinki at 3.32am.
  • The 3.55am T train from Riihimäki will depart five minutes later than normal at 4am. The train will depart from Jokela at 4.14am and from Kerava, the train will continue to Helsinki at 4.32am as normal.

Changes to R and T train services on the nights of Monday 5 February and 4 March

There will be changes to train services between Kerava and Riihimäki due to monthly track maintenance.

From the direction of Helsinki

  • The 0.40am R train and 1.51am T train from Helsinki will terminate at Kerava station.
    • Replacement bus 969X will depart from Kerava at 1.08am and 2.33am and run to Riihimäki via the intermediate stations.

From the direction of Riihimäki

  • The 2.55am T train from Riihimäki (from Jokela at 3.12am) is cancelled between Riihimäki and Kerava. The T train will depart from Kerava to Helsinki as usual at 3.32am.
    • Replacement bus 969X will depart from Riihimäki at 2.48am (from Jokela at 3.18am) and run to Kerava via the intermediate stations. The 4.04am K train from Kerava to Helsinki as usual.  
  • The 3.55am T train from Riihimäki will depart five minutes later than normal at 4am. The train will depart from Jokela at 4.14am and from Kerava, the train will continue to Helsinki at 4.32am as normal.

Replacement bus 969X

You can board the train replacement buses also through the middle doors. If you have a valid ticket, you do not need to show it to the driver. You can use the same tickets as for the trains when travelling on a replacement bus, i.e. valid HSL and VR tickets.

The change is part of a larger project

The track work is part of the project of the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency to increase the rail capacity between Helsinki and Riihimäki. The aim of the project is to increase the capacity of the busiest section of railway in Finland and to reduce the line’s vulnerability to disruptions.
