Pedestrian tunnel at University of Helsinki Metro Station to be closed on Monday 7 October due to repair work

Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd will renew the underfloor heating system inside the pedestrian tunnel between Yliopistonkatu and the University of Helsinki Metro Station. Due to the work, the pedestrian tunnel, also known as “Opintoputki”, will be closed on Monday 7 October. According to the current estimate, the work will be completed at the end of December. During the work, you can access the metro station via the entrances on Kaisaniemenkatu.

The underfloor heating system inside the pedestrian tunnel between Yliopistonkatu and the ticket hall at the University of Helsinki Metro Station will be renewed. Accumulated snow and ice have made the floor of the tunnel slippery during winter time. The new underfloor heating system will prevent the accumulation of snow and ice, thus making the tunnel significantly safer to use in the winter.

Due to the work, the tunnel will be closed from Monday 7 October. Passengers can access the parking hall and use the rest of the station as usual during the work.

According to the current estimate, the tunnel will be opened at the end of December.
