Temporary service points for university students: remember to update your Travel Card

It’s again time for students to update their Travel Cards as the autumn term is about to start. Students get a 50% discount on public transport season and value tickets, provided they meet certain criteria. You can load discount-price season tickets and purchase discount-price value tickets as long as the student status is valid on your Travel Card. You need to update your Travel Card, i.e. renew the student status every year.

HSL has set up temporary service points for students in the Helsinki University main building, at the Viikki campus and Aalto University campus in Otaniemi. The temporary service points are open until early September but to avoid the backlog at the turn of the month, it is advisable to take care of the issue as soon as possible. If you want to avoid queues, go in the morning.

You can also visit an HSL service point or a Citizens’ Office in Espoo or Vantaa to update your Travel Card.

When you visit a service point to update your card, please bring with you your Travel Card and HSL’s student discount ticket application bearing the stamp and signature of your educational institution.
If you have a blue SYL or SAMOK student card, a white SAKKI ry student card, or an SLL student card with a current term sticker, the student card is a sufficient proof of studies.

Students over 30 years of age as well as students taking liberal adult education general courses in folk high schools have to present a certificate of receiving a study grant, student loan or rehabilitation subsidy from KELA or the provincial government of Åland.  The certificate must show the number of months remaining on the grant.

Scanned and copied application forms and/or certificates of receiving a study grant, student loan or rehabilitation subsidy, or forms/certificates stored on smart phones or tablets are not accepted.
