City bikes to hit the streets of Espoo on 2 May
The city bike service first introduced in Helsinki is now expanding to Espoo. There will be in total 105 city bike stations in Espoo. The opening of the city bike service in Espoo will be celebrated at Kulttuuriaukio in Tapiola on 2 May 4pm-6pm.
The city bike service is expanding to Espoo. There will 70 bike stations around Metro stations from May and another 35 stations will be opened during the summer, mainly in Leppävaara. Altogether there will be a whopping 2,550 city bikes in Helsinki and Espoo.
The city bike season’s opening in Espoo will be held at Kulttuuriaukio in Tapiola on 2 May. The event will start at 4pm with speeches and music played by DJ Mista S. In addition, the Finnish pop singer Kasmir will perform at the event.
At the opening event, you can register as a city bike user at HSL’s stand. You can win small prizes, test your knowledge of traffic rules and win a city bike season pass. There will also be balloons, icecream and coffee. The main advertising partner HOK-Elanto, the City of Espoo, HKL, CityBike Finland and Clear Channel will also be present.
You can register as a city bike user at hsl.fi/kaupunkipyörät. A pass for the whole season costs 30 euros. A day pass costs fiver euros, a weekly pass 10 euros. All passes include an unlimited number of 30-minute bike rides. An overage fee is charged for longer rides and the maximum ride time at a time is five hours. The city bike season will end on 31 October.
To pick up a city bike, you need the Cyclist ID you get upon registration and a PIN code of your choice. You can replace the Cyclist ID with your HSL Travel Card, if you wish. You can check the locations of city bike stations, bike availability and cycling routes in HSL’s Journey Planner. Individual bike stations may occasionally be closed, for example, due to street works. Bike stations that are closed show in the Journey Planner in grey. https://www.reittiopas.fi.
During the opening week, 2-5 May, there will be staff guiding people in the use of the bikes at the busiest bike stations: Matinkylä (M), Niittykumpu (M), Tapiola (M), Otaniemi (M) and Keilaniemi (M). Assistance will be available Monday-Friday about 8am-12noon and 3pm-7pm and on Saturday 11am-6pm.
Registered users can use the bikes in both Helsinki and Espoo, for example ride to work from Espoo to Helsinki or vice versa.

The service is administered by CityBike Finland, and HSL is responsible for marketing, digital services and customer relations. Clear Channel is responsible for selling ad space.
