Nobina Oy wins bus contract – electric articulated buses to enter service

Nobina Oy has won a contract for five bus routes in Helsinki and for two routes running to Myyrmäki in Vantaa. The tendering process covered the services of 68 vehicles. Nobina Oy will operate most of the services with electric buses from August 2021.

Articulated buses will be reintroduced in the Helsinki region as 40 electric articulated buses enter service on routes 18, 39 and 40. The buses will be fully low-floor and have a seating capacity of 35 passengers.  Articulated buses will be returning to the region after a break of about 15 years.

“The comfortable and spacious electric articulated buses will improve travel experience,” says Director of Department Tero Anttila. “Because the buses are fully low-floor, there are no steps in the aisles and the buses have space for at least five prams. Large doors make boarding and alighting faster.”

A total of 18 electric buses with a seating capacity of at least 31 passengers will enter service on routes 14, 24, 37, 41 and 42. In addition, ten diesel buses that meet the Euro 6 emissions standards and run on renewable diesel will enter service. The buses have a seating capacity of at least 39 passengers.

The volume of the tendered services is about five million route kilometers a year, which is nearly 5.5 per cent of the annual route kilometers of bus services procured by us. In terms of the number of vehicles, the services account for about five e per cent of the bus services procured by us.
