HSL to contribute over 700,000 euros to help reduce emissions from bus services

HSL has awarded the 2015 environmental bonuses to bus operators. The aim of the bonuses is to decrease carbon and local emissions from bus services.The total amount of bonuses paid is 745,900 euros.

Three operators submitted in total 61 bids in the tendering for environmental bonuses. The use of paraffinic biodiesel was suggested to reduce emissions from diesel buses. Paraffinic biodiesel is produced from waste material or residue.

The bids were approved in the order of their cost-effectiveness. For 1 March 2015 – 31 December 2015, Nobina Finland Oy gets 555,555 euros, Oy Pohjolan Kaupunkiliikene AB 115,200 euros and Transdev Finland Oy 75,700 euros.

By using 4 million liters of biodiesel, carbon dioxide emissions from HSL bus services are reduced by 7,660 tons, nitrogen oxides by 7.2 tons and small particles by 350 kilograms during 2015.
