New HSL Mobile ticket for all journeys – HSL launches a pilot of a new ticket app

HSL launched a pilot of its Mobile ticket app on Wednesday 25 November. The app available for Android phones, allows customers to buy single tickets for all public transport modes in the HSL area.

There are single tickets for all zones: Helsinki, Espoo and Kauniainen, Vantaa, Kerava and Sipoo, Kirkkonummi as well as region, extended region 2 and extended region 3.

“Mobile tickets are easy to purchase. The ticket is a smarter version of an SMS ticket. Mobile tickets are valid for all journeys and allow unlimited travel and transfers within the validity time in the selected travel zone," says Head of Group Risto Vaattovaara from HSL’s Passenger Services Department.

In order to purchase mobile tickets, customers need to download a free app. The app is at first available at the app store for Android phones. Apps for Windows Phone and iOS devices will be available during the end of the year. The tickets can be purchased with subscriptions of Sonera, Elisa, DNA and their subsidiaries. The tickets are charged to the customer’s phone bill.

Single tickets purchased with the HSL Mobile ticket app cost the same as single tickets purchased from drivers or conductors. On buses, the mobile ticket is shown to the driver. On other modes of transport - the Metro, trams, commuter trains and Suomenlinna ferry – the ticket is shown to the conductor or ticket inspector upon request.

“HSL Mobile ticket is well-suited for occasional public transport users in the HSL area.

The ticket is an easy option also for domestic visitors," says the HSL Mobile ticket Project Manager, Jarmo Riikonen.Mobile tickets are valid for 80 minutes from the moment of purchase. Extended region 3 tickets valid in the entire HSL area are valid for 100 minutes. Just like SMS tickets, mobile tickets must be purchased and they must arrive on the HSL Mobile ticket app before the passenger boards a vehicle or enters the Metro or Suomenlinna ferry platform area.
