New vehicles on HSL area bus services in autumn 2015

Next autumn six new low-emission Euro 6 compliant buses will enter into service following bus service contracts awarded by HSL. Ten more new buses will enter into service at the beginning of 2016. The local emissions of the new buses are smaller than those of the current buses. The buses will mainly operate in Espoo and Helsinki.

The Euro 6 compliant buses are equipped with air conditioning, automatic fire extinguishing system, driving style monitoring system, ignition interlocks, safety cabins and surveillance cameras. With regard to local emissions, nitrogen oxides (NOx) will be reduced to one fifth and particle emissions (PM) will be halved compared to EEV buses.

The services now tendered account for about per cent of all bus services procured by HSL, both in terms of the number of vehicles and route kilometers. Currently, some 1,306 buses operate on weekdays on the bus services procured by HSL, annual route kilometers amount to about 98.3 million.

The operating costs of the services tendered are EUR 11.6 million.  The costs are up from the current level by about 1.7 per cent.
