Ring Rail Line opening day festivities on Wednesday 1 July

The opening of the Ring Rail Line will be celebrated on Wednesday 1 July. There will be a variety of events throughout the day at Ring Rail Line stations as well as at the Helsinki Central Railway Station.

The first I train from Helsinki will leave at 3.59am from track 7 and the first P train at 5.14am from track 17. The first passengers will get a small surprise from HSL.

The Minister of Transport and Communications Anner Berner, the Chair of the City Council of Vantaa Antti Lindtman, Director General of the Finnish Transport Agency Antti Vehviläinen and HSL Executive Director Suvi Rihtniemi will give speeches at the Vantaa Info at Dixi Shopping Center at 8am.

A whole range of opening day festivities will take place in Helsinki at the Central Railway Station and Eliel Square (Elielinaukio) and in Vantaa at Tikkurila station as well as at the new Leinelä, Aviapolis and Kivistö stations. HSL’s celebration marquee will be set up at the Asema-aukio square between the Metro and Central Railway Station entrances. VR will host events at the Central Railway Station main platform area and in Tikkurila. The City of Vantaa and its partners in cooperation will host festivities at the new Kivistö, Leinelä and Aviapolis stations.

A video about the construction of the Ring Rail Line produced by the Finnish Transport Agency will be displayed at Tikkurila, Leinelä, Aviapolis and Kivistö stations.The Helsinki Airport train station will open on Friday 10 July. There is a free bus service from the Aviapolis train station to the airport until the opening of the Helsinki Airport station.  

Sound artists Samuli “Teho” Majamäki and Tapani Rinne will be performing at Aviapolis, Leinelä and Kivistö stations.

Central Railway Station and Asema-aukio

HSL’s celebration marquee will be open at the Asema-aukio square between the Metro and Central Railway Station entrances from 7am to 6pm.

  • Paula the Cow visits the event at 10am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 5.30pm, face-painting for children

  • Magician Keke Pulliainen performs at 1pm and 2pm
  • HSL House Band plays Finnish and international dance pop 4pm-5pm
  • HSL instragram competition: Post your photo on Instagram with hashtag #kehärata by 1 July 2015 to win you an HSL gift voucher. 
  • You can meet HSL’s transport planners in the afternoon also at Tikkurila, Aviapolis and Kivistö stations. 

VR will host festivities at the main platform area at the Central Railway Station from 10am to 6pm.

Tikkurila
VR will be hosting festivities at the Tikkurila station (station bridge) from 10am to 5pm.

There will be live music and other festivities also at the Dixi Shopping Center.

Leinelä
Vantaan markkionointi Oy will host festivities at the west end of the Leinelä station from 10am to 6pm. Children from the Leinelä daycare will welcome the train arriving at 10am.

Aviapolis
Vantaan Markkinointi Oy will host festivities at Aviapolis station from 10am to 6pm

Southern entrance:

  • Acquaint yourself with Aviapolis with the help of a virtual reality helmet
  • Town planning information at 11am, 2pm and 4pm: what kind of housing would you like to have around the airport?
  • An Airport property specialist tells about new projects at the airport
  • Pop up program: DJ chilling, music and magicians
  • Electric car testing

Northern entrance (at the junction of Aviabulevardi and Mekaanikontie)

  • Skanska presents its latest office development, Aviabulevardi, coffee and cookies, balloons
  • Free entry to the Aviation Museum on 1 July, guided tour at 1pm, museum open 10am-8pm.
  • Pop up program and electric car testing

Kivistö
The City of Vantaa will host festivities at the station 11.34am-6pm hosted by Matti Airaksinen.

  • Soundscape artists Tapani Rinne and Teho Majamäki perform at 12noon
  • Youth bands Happy Camper, Too Hot for Radio and UNI perform 1pm-3.30pm
  • Street dance with music by Marko Haavisto and Poutahaukat 4pm-6pm

There will be food stalls and information stands of, for example, the City of Vantaa, developers and House Fair. The City of Vantaa invites graffiti artists to paint the fence of the senior service center under construction. Fira Oy will set up a plywood fence of about 30 meters for the purposes of painting at the corner of Ruusukvartsinkatu. You can participate in the painting 1 July to 9 August.
