Work on new bus stops for trunk route 560 to commence in East Helsinki

A new trunk bus route 560 will start running in August. Work on new stops for the route are about to commence in East Helsinki.

Five stops are constructed on Kontulantie. The quality of existing stops is improved by increasing the length of the stops to at least 36 meters. To increase the length of the stops and improve access to the stops, changes need to be made to the existing planting and some trees need to be removed. The stops will remain open throughout the improvement works.

Construction of the stops along the northern part of the route will start later. The aim is that all stops are completed by 10 August when the new bus service starts running.

The bus 560 will provide a new crosstown bus service between Vuosaari and Myyrmäki along a 28 kilometer long route. The bus also provides a transfer link to the Ring Rail Line at Malmi station.

On trunk routes, distances between stops are longer and headways shorter than on other bus routes to provide efficient service similar to rail services. Good transfer links have been a key criteria when choosing the locations of stops.  Also traffic signal priorities and the new public transport tunnel from Paloheinä in North Helsinki to Kuninkaantammi speed up journey times.

Route 560 will run every 7-8 minutes in peak times, every 10-15 minutes during the weekend day time and every 20-30 minutes during quiet times. The bus operate Mon-Fri approximately 4.45am-11.30pm and on weekends 5.30am-11.30pm.
