Works to change route number signs at bus stops in Vantaa started

The reorganization of bus routes in Vantaa in August involves renumbering of the routes. Some of the familiar route numbers will remain in use but the routes of the services change. Works to change route number signs at bus stops commence already in May as the works to change all of the signs takes time.

Route number signs at bus stops are changed to correspong to the situation on 10 August. Posters explaining the route number sign change are put up at bus stops when the signs are changed. Information about bus stops serving each stop is available in the Journey Planner and on the timetables displayed at many stops.

The new bus route network in Vantaa will be launched on 10 August. The Ring Rail Line will open at the beginning of July. The Ring Rail Line and the new bus network form an integrated whole in which the frequently running trains are the trunk transport link supplemented by feeder bus services.

HSL to revise route numbering

Bus routes are renumbered across the HSL area in phases. The route numbering is revised so that each route number is used only on one route in the whole HSL area.  At present, city internal bus routes are numbered city-specifically and some buses running in different cities have the same route numbers. For example, there is a bus route 43 in Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa. The duplicate route numbers may cause confusion, for example, when using online timetables.

The route numbers will be revised in conjunction with major route network redesigns.  In Vantaa and Kerava, bus routes are renumbered in August 2015, in Espoo and Kauniainen in 2016 when the West Metro starts operating. The new numbering system is already applied to bus routes in Sipoo and Kirkkonummi.

In Helsinki, route numbers will not change significantly. This is reasonable as the passenger numbers on Helsinki internal bus routes are the highest and the current route numbers have been in use in Helsinki longer than in the other municipalities.
