Bus routes diverted in Otaniemi until the opening of the West Metro

Bus routes in Otaniemi have been on diversion since December when Otaniementie was closed to traffic between Konemiehentie and Tietotie. During the first few weeks, the arrangements have worked reasonably well.

“It was good that we put the arrangements in place in Otaniemi during a slightly more quiet time just before Christmas,” says HSL transport planner Kari Lehtonen.

The number of passengers will go up also in Otaniemi when the university spring term starts and HSL wants to remind passengers of the traffic arrangements in place in the area. Most of the buses running in Otaniemi are diverted and there have been changes to many of the bus stops served by the routes in Teekkarikylä as well as in front of the Otaniemi shopping center.

The route number signs at bus stops provide up-to-date information about the destinations of the buses and also other information available at stops is up-to-date. It is important to pay attention to the matter as some of the buses (for example, routes 102 and trunk route 550) turn around at the roundabout at the intersection of Otaniementie and Vuorimiehentie and continue in the direction they came from.

“The route number signs at stops always tell which route goes to which direction from the stop in question,” Lehtonen reminds.

The arrangements are due to major construction works to refurbish the Aalto University Otaniemi Campus. The arrangements will remain in place until the opening of the West Metro in August 2016, when the new Espoo bus network is introduced. Construction work on the campus will continue even after that.
