Location of new city bike stations announced

The city bike Network will expand in spring 2017: there will be 1,500 bikes and 150 bike stations. The Helsinki City Planning Department announced the location of the new bikes stations last Friday. From 2 May 2015, city bikes will be available in an area extending from downtown Helsinki to Munkkiniemi, Pasila and Kumpula.

The extension of the city bike network will improve the service level and accessibility of the public transport system. The city bikes are part of the public transport trip chain and promote sustainable mobility.

Residents were able to have their say on the draft plan for the extension of the city bike system in the late summer 2016. The City of Helsinki received over 1,300 comments. On the basis of the feedback and preliminary plans, new city bike stations will be established, for example, close to Hernesaari. See the locations of the planned stations on map.

Registration for the next city bike season will begin in April 2017.

Once the new stations have been opened, their locations and bike availability information will be available in real-time in HSL’s new Journey Planner. Have a look at the new Journey Planner at https://beta.reittiopas.fi/.
