Renovation of the Hakaniemi Metro Station ticket hall about to begin

The ticket hall at the southern end of the station and the entrances will be refurbished. The works will begin on Monday 5 September. There will be access to the Metro throughout the renovation. The renovation will be completed in autumn 2018.

The old ticket hall will be demolished and replaced by larger and more diverse business premises. The station entrances from the Hakaniemi market place and tram stops will be refurbished. The Siltasaarenkatu entrance will be moved to Siltasaarenkatu 16 and the entrance next to Ympyrätalo will be refurbished. The entrances at the northern end of the station from Toinen linja and Porthaninkatu will remain open throughout the renovation.

The entrances from the market place and tram stops will be closed from 5 September.

In the first phase, the entrances from the Hakaniemi market place and tram stops will be refurbished. The entrances will be closed from Monday 5 September 2016. Access to the station will be available from Siltasaarenkatu, Porthaninkatu and Toinen linja. An accessible entrance to the station is at the northern end (Porthaninkatu). The new entrances will be completed in autumn 2017 after which works will continue at the Siltasaarenkatu and Ympyrätalo entrances.

The renovation of the ticket hall at the southern end of the station will also begin on Monday 5 September. The commercial premises and toilets located in the hall will be closed. The existing ticket hall will be demolished and replaced by new commercial premises and rest facilities for drivers. Access to the Metro platform area will be available throughout the renovation. The renovation of the ticket hall does not affect tram and Metro services running via Hakaniemi. The renovation will be completed in spring 2018.

Hakaniemi Metro Station was opened in 1982 and it is one of the oldest Metro Stations. Some 14,000 passengers pass through the station every day. The renovation is needs as the ticket hall is in poor condition and technically outdated. The renovation will make the station safer and more comfortable to use. Once the renovation is completed, there will be accessible entrances from Siltasaarenkatu, Hakaniemi market place and Porthaninkatu.
