Changes to public transport from the beginning of 2018

Siuntio and Tuusula will join HSL, enabling the residents of the two municipalities to travel with HSL’s tickets. In South Espoo, Lauttasaari and South Kirkkonummi, current bus routes will be replaced by feeder routes. There will be a number of other minor changes to routes and timetables.

Tuusula and Siuntio to join HSL on 1 January 2018 at 4.30 AM

Tuusula and Siuntio will become HSL’s member municipalities at the beginning of next year, allowing the residents of the two municipalities to travel to any other HSL municipality conveniently with one ticket. In addition, the change means that in the future, information about bus timetables and possible changes to services in Tuusula and Siuntio will be available on HSL’s website and the Journey Planner.

Prices of mobile tickets to decrease

The prices of HSL’s mobile tickets will decrease significantly at the beginning of 2018. The separate night fare will be discontinued from 4.30am on 1 January. In other words, on New Year's night, the night fare is still in use. The prices of season tickets, Travel Card value tickets and single tickets purchased in advance, from ticket machines of from drivers will remain mostly unchanged.

Buses in South Espoo, Lauttasaari and South Kirkkonummi start running to Metro Stations from 3 January 2018

There will be major changes to routes in South Espoo, Lauttasaari and South Kirkknummi when most of the current direct bus services to Helsinki city center are replaced by feeder services to Metro Stations from 3 January. In Espoo, the key interchange hubs will be Matinkylä and Tapiola. In Lauttasaari, all bus services will run via the Metro Station.

Regional bus routes currently running from Kirkkonummi to Kamppi in Helsinki will terminate at Matinkylä bus terminal.

In addition, there will be major changes to bus departure bays and routes at the Kamppi local bus terminal and the surrounding streets and bus 63 will start leaving from Kamppi instead of Elielinaukio.

There will be changes to bus bays on Hakaniemen torikatu from 3 January. The changes will affect buses 26, 51, 73, 74, 616, 621, 622 and 623.

The Munkkivuori terminus of neighborhood routes 31 and 32 will move from Raumantie to Naantalintie on 3 January

HSL’s tickets no longer available from VR’s tickets machines from 1 January 2018

From the beginning of 2018, HSL’s tickets will no longer be available from VR’s ticket machines. The most convenient way to buy a ticket for a commuter train is HSL’s mobile ticket app. You can now buy both adult and child mobile tickets.

In addition, HSL’s tickets are available from all R-kiosks in the HSL area, from service points and ticket machiens. New HSL ticket machines will be available at Jokela and Siuntio stations from 1 January 2018. Tickets are not sold on commuter trains.

One age limit for child tickets in the HSL area

From 1 January 2018, childred under 7 years of age travel for free on VR’s commuter train services as well as in the HSL area. In addition, people traveling with a pram will be able to travel for free on VR’s commuter services in the same way as in the HSL area.
