Increased tram service to Jätkäsaari – Välimerenkatu tram tracks and stops to open on Monday 14 August

Tram services to the growing neighborhood of Jätkäsaari will improve from 14 August when the new Helsinki tram network is rolled out. At the same time, the new track section on Välimerenkatu will open.

Raitiovaunujen reitit uudistuvat 14.8.2017The tracks on Välimerenkatu have been built over the summer and the new track section and tram stops will open on schedule. From Monday 14 August, tram 9 will start running along Välimerenkatu to its new terminus in Saukonpaasi.

Two new pairs of stops will be opened on Välimerenkatu: “Välimerenkatu” stops are located by the Malta House and “Huutokonttori” stops are next to the Tyynenmerenkatu junction.

As tram starts running to Saukonpaasi, the West Terminal will be served by a new tram route, 7, running from the West Terminal via the Central Railway Station and Kruununhaka to Pasila station. Betweeen the Central Railway Station and Huutokonttori the tram will use the same route as tram 9 and then continue along Tyynenmerenkatu to the West Terminal.

There will be no changes to the routes of trams 8 and 6T in Jätkäsaari.

Changes outlined for the coming years

There will be more changes to the Jätkäsaari tram routes over the coming years, as the area is further developed. In the early 2020s, new tracks will be built, for example, on Atlantinkatu.

Trams 8 and 9 will eventually run from Saukonpaasi along Atlantinkatu to the West Terminal and tram 7 will run from the West Terminal along Atlantinkatu to areas not yet constructed.
