West Metro test runs to continue on 21 September – Passengers must get off at the latest at Ruoholahti

On Thursday 21 September, Metro trains continue from Ruoholahti westward on the West Metro section of line according to normal timetables. Last week test runs were suspended due to an overload of the electricity supply system. The West Metro power system has now been remodified and its operation has been verified.

The test runs are performed to test the operation performance before passenger services on the new section of line begin. Passengers must get off at the latest at Ruoholahti.

The test runs must be operated along the entire length of the line to test the performance of the entire Metro system before starting passenger services on the West Metro section.

New platform displays tested

The new platform displays will also be tested on Thursday. Currently there is one new display on each platform. In other words, on Thursday the Metro arrival times and destinations are shown on platform displays marked with "koekäytössä" (in test use) stickers. Other platform displays are switched off. This means passengers waiting for the train at the other end of the platform will not necessarily be able to see the display. HKL apologizes for any inconvenience caused.

On the test run days, all trains from Vuosaari and Mellunmäki go to Ruoholahti.

Allow enough time for your journey

Thousands of hours of test runs have been performed on the West Metro during 2016 and 2017 at night time. The sort of technical problems encountered last week were not expected on the basis of earlier test runs. The operation of the services is expected to be significantly smoother tomorrow.

However, changes and delays to Metro services are possible and passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys. Information about potential changes and delays will be available on HSL’s website, in the Journey Planner and on passenger information displays. You can also subscribe to receive HSL’s disruption alerts to your email.
