Do you have a service that could change the Helsinki region? Participate in a mobility contest!

The total prize money for the IdeaLab contest is one million euros. HSL’s innovation contest seeks new mobility services for the metropolitan area.

Offer a new mobility option and your service may soon have a customer base making a million journeys a day.

In June, HSL will launch an IdeaLab innovation contest to seek new solutions and interesting mobility services for the entire metropolitan area.

“We are looking for services that excite people and make the day-to-day lives of the region’s residents easy. We want to find solutions that would complement and enhance HSL’s services,” says Mari Flink, HSL’s Director of Customer Experience and Sales.

The IdeaLab contest will launch at the end of June. HSL is looking for 2-3 new mobility services.

“We will provide in total one million euros for piloting and developing new solutions,” tells Jemina Uusitalo, HSL’s MaaS Project Manager.

HSL will pilot new mobility options during the next two years together with companies and customers in a fast and agile manner.

“HSL’s customers make a million journeys a day: this is an exceptionally fertile environment for effective use of new mobility services,” says Uusitalo.

HSL is looking for solutions related to, for example, ridesharing, mobility services for sparsely populated areas, carrying groceries, leisure journeys or reducing the need to travel. The services to be piloted must be sustainable both economically and environmentally. One important goal is to reduce emissions from transport.

“The solution can also be something completely new, such as a modern mobile shop, combining travel chains or an office hotel. We want to harness collective intelligence. There are some great solutions already, we want to make them fly and make them quickly available to customers,” says Uusitalo.

You can participate in the innovation contest with a finished service or a concept that can be quickly developed into a pilot.

The contest will open at the end of June. It will be carried out through a call for tenders. An expert jury will select the best proposals to be tested.

“The aim is that after the pilot, both the company whose service is piloted, HSL and our member municipalities share a common will to continue providing the services. We believe that together with our customers and partners, we will be able to find new services that make people’s day-to-day lives easier.
