Leaf fall season is here again

Delays are expected to tram services due to leaves falling on tracks. The fallen leaves make the tracks slippery and lengthen the braking distance of trams.

The situation is the most difficult in areas where trees grow right next to the tracks. Drivers, pedestrians and cyclistst are advised to take extra care near tram tracks and children should be reminded not to play near tracks.

For trains, a bigger problem is the moisture that condenses on the surface of the tracks. However, leaves on the line cause problems for freight trains, also affecting passenger train services.

The slippery tracks pose problems for the acceleration of the trains and trains and trams can be jerky.
