Buy your season ticket in advance and avoid the crowds at sales and service points on Monday 29 April

The introduction of new fare zones on Saturday 27 April will mark the beginning of a new era in Helsinki region public transport. Internal and regional tickets will become a thing of the past and instead, tickets will be purchased for zones A, B, C and D. Unusually high numbers of people are expected to visit sales and service points on Monday 29 April to buy season tickets. If you want to avoid the crowds at sales and service points, top up your card in advance or buy a season ticket using the HSL app.

You can load a season ticket on your HSL card in advance: the start date of the ticket can be before the new zones come into effect and the expiry date can be after the introduction of the new zones. If the expiry date of your season ticket is after 27 April, it will be automatically converted into a new zone ticket.

You can also buy a season ticket using the HSL app; season tickets on the app will be automatically converted into zone tickets on 27 April. Season tickets for university students are also available on the app. Read more

If you have not yet downloaded the HSL app, it is available for Android and iPhone devices free of charge from app stores. Read more

This is how tickets will be converted at 4.30am on 27 April:

  • Helsinki internal -> AB
  • Espoo and Vantaa internal tickets -> BC
  • Regional ticket -> ABC
  • Kerava–Sipoo–Tuusula -> D
  • Kirkkonummi–Siuntio -> D
  • Extended region 2 -> BCD
  • Extended region 3 -> ABCD

The third alternative is that you load a season ticket whose start date is after the introduction of the new zones, for example, on Monday 29 April. In this case, select the approriate ticket from the table above in reverse order. For example, if you will need a BC ticket, buy an internal season ticket for Espoo or Vantaa. If you will need an ABC ticket, buy a regional ticket, etc. Remember to select a start date after the introduction of the new zones, i.e. after 27 April.

You can even have two consecutive season tickets on your HSL card. If you have a valid season ticket on your card, you can buy another season ticket in advance and set the validity of the ticket to begin after the introduction of the new zones. The validity of a season ticket can begin immediately or within 1-60 days from the moment of purchase. You can buy a season ticket for 14-366 days.

You can change the validity area of your season ticket at a service point

If the new zone season ticket does not suit your travel needs, you can change the validity area of the ticket at a service point. Following the introduction of the new zones, you can change the validity area of your ticket without the six euro processing fee.

If your new season ticket is cheaper than the old one, the prize difference will be loaded as value on your HSL card at the service point. You can use the value to pay for single fares or for a season ticket.
