HSL public transport over the New Year and on Epiphany, 6 January: service changes and additional services

HSL will provide additional transport services on New Year’s Eve and on 5 January. There will be some service changes as well as bus and tram diversions in Helsinki due to New Year’s Eve celebrations at the Kansalaistori Square. For up-to-date timetables and routes, see the Journey Planner.

New Year’s Eve

On New Year’s Eve, Tuesday 31 December, a Friday service will operate. There will be additional services on some bus routes, L trains will run later than usual and the Metro and commuter trains to Helsinki Airport will run until about 2.30am.

The Metro feeder services will operate a normal Friday service, with the exception of route 84 which will have additional services from Herttoniemi to Laajasalo.

On New Year’s night, Mannerhemintie will be closed to traffic between Arkadiankatu and Helsinginkatu about 10pm to 1.30am due to New Year’s Eve celebrations at the Kansalaistori Square. Buses usually departing from Elielinaukio will depart from the Mäntymäki Field and buses serving Kamppi that usually run along Mannerheimintie as well as trams 4 and 10 will be diverted through Töölö. Tram 5 will operate to special timetables on New Year’s Eve due to changed departure times of passenger ferries. The tram will operate to the Katajanokka Terminal according to the passenger ferry operating hours. The timetables are available in the Journey Planner.

In Siuntio and Kirkkonummi, the service routes will operate a Tuesday service. In addition, there may be service changes on U-line buses whose routes extend outside the HSL areal.

New Year’s Day

On New Year’s Day, Wednesday 1 January, a Sunday service will operate.

Tram 5 will operate to special timetables due to changed departure times of passenger ferries.

There will be changes to the timetables of many bus routes from 1 January 2020. In addition, the routes of buses 50, 57, 59, 78(N), 506 and 550 will change. In Helsinki, some bus stops will be renamed. Read more in a separate release.

There will also be changes to ticket prices on 1 January.

 

5 January

On Sunday 5 January, a normal Sunday service will operate. Night bus services will also operate on the night of 5 January, i.e. from midnight, buses will mainly operate a Saturday service. For detailed timetables by route, see the Journey Planner. There may be service changes on U-line routes.

There will also be additional commuter train services.


Epiphany, 6 January

On Monday 6 January, a Sunday service will operate.

Tram 5 will operate to special timetables due to changed departure times of passenger ferries.
