After the changeover to the new fare system at 4.30am on Saturday 27 April, you need the latest version, 2.0, of the HSL app to be able to buy tickets using the app. Some app users have set their phones to automatically update the app. If you do not have auto-updates enabled, you must update your app to the latest version from the App Store (iPhone devices) or Google Play (Android devices).
The travel conditions for the HSL app will change with the introduction of the new zones. In the future, you must be able to present your ticket to a ticket inspector or conductor throughout your journey. Your phone must have enough battery power to display your ticket; if you are unable to display your ticket, the ticket inspector may issue a penalty fare. The aim of the change is to prevent fare evasion as well as to harmonize the principles of ticket use so that passengers must have a valid ticket for the duration of their journey whether they are using the HSL card or the HSL app.
The HSL app user interface will be updated when the new zones are introduced. A new From-To function will be introduced in the app to ease ticket purchase. The function allows you to check which ticket you need. When you search for routes with the Journey Planner, it also tells you which ticket you need for your journey.
You can buy adult and child single tickets, adult and child day tickets for 1-7 days, as well as 30-day season tickets for adults and students using the HSL app. If you use a season ticket, the new zone extension tickets will allow you to inepxensively expand your travel area. You can buy a zone extension ticket using the HSL app if you have purchased your season ticket on the app.
