How to buy a student's season ticket on the HSL app

If you live permanently in the HSL area and are a full-time student, you can buy season tickets at a 45% discount. You can activate the discount on the HSL app yourself. HSL cards are updated at the service points. The student discount entitlement must be renewed annually.

The HSL app verifies the user’s right to a student discount on the basis of enrolment data stored in the Koski service of the Finnish National Agency for Education.
The purchase path on the application will initially take you to the My Studyinfo service of the Finnish National Agency for Education, where you shall authorize HSL to view your enrolment data and details of your educational institution. You must accept the eligibility criteria for a student ticket and the ticket terms and conditions on the app.
The Finnish National Agency for Education has instructed educational institutions to transfer information on study rights to the Koski service at the beginning of the semester at the latest. For this reason, problems may still occur with student ticket purchases in early August. The problems are associated with the availability of enrolment data, which, for example in the case of higher education institutions, is limited in the Koski service to the past academic year, ending on 31 July 2020. The updating of enrolment data and possible delays in the service vary between educational institutions, and you must enroll for the academic year separately at your educational institution.
If you have problems buying a ticket on the HSL app, we recommend that you register as attending at your educational institution and then check your enrolment data in the My Studyinfo service with strong authentication at https://opintopolku.fi/oma-opintopolku/.

If the My Studyinfo service is up to date but you are still having problems with purchasing your season ticket, follow these steps:
• Log out of the HSL app at the bottom of the menu at More > Settings.
• Log into the app again with your HSL account by following the same path.
• Sign in with strong authentication at More > Settings > My Information "Renew authentication".

For some students, the study data cannot be obtained electronically. If you are unable to verify your student discount entitlement directly on the app, you can update your HSL card at an HSL service point and download a student-priced season ticket.
