New bus routes will be rolled out in Lauttasaari on 10 August 2020. The previous major changes to bus routes in Lauttasaari took place when the metro extension from Ruoholahti to Espoo was opened and the feeder bus routes were introduced.
All Lauttasaari bus services will operate via Lauttasaari Metro Station also in the future. A direct bus service between Lauttasaari and Kamppi will be reinstated. A new route, 22B, will start running between Lauttasaari Metro Station and Katajaharju.
The Lauttasaari bus network will comprise three routes: 21, 22 and 22B. The route numbers have changed.
In addition, feeder route 104 (Lauttasaari–Haukilahti) will continue to run on weekdays. Night bus service 20N will be renumbered 21N. The bus will be rerouted to run along Itälahdenkatu instead of Melkonkatu; otherwise the route will remain unchanged.
The original plan included a route running between Katajaharju and Vattuniemi, but it will not be launched due to the weakening of HSL’s financial position as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

How the route network was designed
The current Lauttasaari bus network was introduced in January 2018. The aim of the planning project was to solve the problems of the current route network and to improve feeder services.
We have sought to engage customers throughout the project.
The first step in the planning process was a travel survey for people moving about Lauttasaari. The online survey was open for two weeks in August-September 2019. The survey was conducted to understand the travel habits of people in Lauttasaari. It provided us with preliminary data for the planning of the bus network.
In September 2019, we held a resident workshop where ten people from the area discussed the new routes with our planners and shared their thoughts and suggestions.
A draft of the new Lauttasaari bus network was released in late-November 2019. Residents had three weeks to comment on the draft. Residents and other stakeholders were able to submit their feedback about the draft via a blog, our feedback system at hsl.fi as well as by phone and at our service points.
The draft route network plan was presented to residents at the Lauttis Shopping Center on 3 December 2019.
HSL Executive Board approved the new route network for Lauttasaari on 11 February 2020.
