In the coming years, metro services will be extended from Matinkylä to Kivenlahti. We are now developing a new bus route network for South Espoo. The extension of the metro line to Kivenlahti will also affect feeder bus services in Kirkkonummi.
What is it about?
The metro will be extended to Kivenlahti and five new stations will be opened. The new stations are Finnoo, Kaitaa, Soukka, Kivenlahti and Espoonlahti. The opening of the new stations will significantly affect travel patterns and feeder services in the area. Our aim is to develop the route network to provide more effective feeder services that meet the passengers' needs, without forgetting Espoo internal transport links, e.g. from the Greater Espoonlahti area to key district centers. In addition, the planning includes transport links between Kauklahti and the Greater Espoonlahti area as construction in the area increases.
Key goals for planning include more effective feeder services, better internal transport links and meeting the needs of developing areas. Close consultation with residents and stakeholders are part of the project from inception to completion.
The work started in August 2020 with a travel survey. Our aim is to produce the first draft of the new route network by late autumn 2020 and the plan should to be completed in early 2021.
Metro services to Kivenlahti are scheduled to start running in 2023 and the new bus routes will launch at the same time.
