Public transport street between Suurpelto and Kuurinniitty in Espoo to open on 10 January 2022 Changes to bus routes also in Tuomarila, Espoon keskus and Kauklahti

Bus route 118 will start to run along the new street. With its increased service frequency, the bus will provide a robust crosstown transport link. The bus will no longer run via Ring Road II, Turunväylä and Tuomarilantie (Tuomarila station). The route will be shortened to end at Espoon keskus.

The new route is Tapiola (M), Niittykumpu (M), Suurpelto, Kuurinniitty, Suvela, Espoon keskus.

Bus 118 will run every 10 minutes Monday to Friday at peak times. During the daytime and in the early evening on weekdays and Saturdays, the bus will run every 15 minutes. On Sundays, the bus will run every 30 minutes.

The supplementary route 118B (Tapiola – Suurpelto) will be withdrawn when the service frequency on bus route 118 is increased on the full length of the route (Tapiola – Espoon keskus).

As the bus will no longer run via the intersection of Ring Road II and Turunväylä which is at times congested, its reliability will improve.

The new route of bus 118 from 10 January 2022 is Tapiola, Niittykumpu (M), Suurpelto, Kuurinniitty, Suvela, Espoon keskus.

Between Suurpelto and Suvela, the bus will take the following route: Lillhemnintie, Storhemtintie, Salinpellontie (the new public transport street), Tinametsä, Kuurintorpantie, Pitkännotkontie, Sunankaari, Suvelantie, Kirstintie.

At first, there will be to pairs of bus stops along the new street: “Lillhemtintie” (E3320 and E3321, closer to Suurpelto) and “Väli-Henttaantie” (E3324/E3325, closer to Kuurinniitty).

The section of route via Ring Road I and Turunväylä to Tuomarilantie (next to Tuomarila station) will no longer be served. The bus will terminate at Espoon keskus, the section of route via Muurala to Kauklahti will not be served.

Bus route 118B (Tapiola – Suurpelto) will be withdrawn; it will be replaced by increased service on route 118. Bus 118 will run every 10 minutes Monday to Friday at peak times. During the daytime and in the early evening on weekdays and Saturdays, the bus will run every 15 minutes. On Sundays, the bus will run every 30 minutes.

Transport links to Suurpelto from the direction of Espoon keskus will improve. The number of buses per hour will in most cases double. Services to the metro stations, Niittykumpu and Tapiola, will continue to run frequently.

The route of night bus 118N will not change.

Kuuriinniitty will be served by rerouted bus 118. The new route is Tapiola, Niittykumpu (M), Suurpelto, Kuurinniitty, Suvela, Espoon keskus.

The bus will provide good interchange with other public transport services, e.g. with the metro at Niittykumpu and Tapiola stations. Bus 118 will run every 10 minutes Monday to Friday at peak times. During the daytime and in the early evening on weekdays and Saturdays, the bus will run every 15 minutes. On Sundays, the bus will run every 30 minutes.

Bus 118 will run from Kuurinniitty to Suurpelto along Salinpellontie, i.e. along the new public transport street. At first, there will be two pairs of bus stops along the new street: “Väli-Henttaantie” (E3324 and E3325, closer to Kuurinniitty) and “Lillhemtintie” (E3320 and E3321, closer to Suurpelto).

Bus 224 will no longer call at Kuurintorpantie. Journeys to Kauniainen will involve changing from bus 118. Alternatively, passengers can walk to the stop of bus 224. The walk from the Kuurinniitty turnaround to the stop is about 800 meters.

There will no changes to night bus 235N.

Bus 118 will be rerouted. The bus will run via the new public transport street in Kuurinniitty and via Pitkännotkontie. The section of route via Tuomarilantie (next to Tuomarila station) will no longer be served.

Buses 213 and 213N will serve Tuomarilantie.

Bus 118 (running every 10 minutes at peak times) will provide a new transport link via Suvelantie, Sunankaari and Pitkännotkontie to e.g. Niittykumpu Metro Station and Tapiola. In the other direction, the bus goes to Espoon keskus.

On bus route 224, the journey time to Kauniainen and Leppävaara will shorten as the bus will no longer call at Kuurinniitty.

Bus route 118 and bus route 213N, which runs on weekend evenings, will terminate at Espoon keskus, i.e. they will no longer serve Muurala and Kauklahti. The new departure stop will be on Kirkkojärventie (bay 30, E6008).

Bus route 213 will continue to serve the section of route via Muurala to Kauklahti during the daytime on weekdays.

In addition, a new bus route 242, Espoon keskus – Muurala – Kauklahti – Bassenkylä, will be introduced to replace the withdrawn service. The bus will run on weekday mornings and evenings as well as on weekends, i.e. at times when bus 213 does not operate.

Trains and buses 213 and 242 serve journeys from Espoon keskus to Kauklahti. Buses 213, 242 and 243 go from Espoon keskus to Muurala.
Schools along Kirkkokatu can be accessed by a number of buses from Espoo station, for example, buses 200, 531 and 542.

Bus routes 118 and 213N will terminate at Espoon keskus, i.e. they will no longer serve Muurala and Kauklahti. Bus route 213 will continue to serve the section of route via Muurala to Kauklahti during the daytime on weekdays.

A new bus route 242, Espoon keskus – Muurala – Kauklahti – Bassenkylä, will be introduced to replace the withdrawn service. The bus will run on weekday mornings and evenings as well as on weekends, i.e. at times when bus 213 does not operate.

Route 213 will be extended to Hansavalkama in Kauklahti, to the former terminus of bus route 118.

Buses 213 and 242 serve journeys from Kauklahti to Muurala, schools along Kirkkokatu and Espoon keskus. Espoon keskus can also be reached by train.

A new bus route 166K will serve Bassenkylä Monday to Friday about 6am to 8.30am and 3pm to 6pm. The bus will run from Bassenkylä via Kauklahti station and Lasihytti to Lasilaakso.

On weekends,  the new bus route 242 (Espoon keskus – Kauklahti – Bassenkylä) will serve Bassenkylä.

Bus routes 166K and 242 will serve the following new stops in Bassenkylä: “Bassenraitti” (E5187 and E5188) and “Kauppiaantanhua” (E5189 and E5190) on Bassenkyläntie and the terminus “Bassenkylä” (E5100) at the end of Kangastie.

In Lasihytti, bus 166K will serve the following new stops: “Hyttimestari” (E5224 and E5225) and “Lasihytti” (E5222 and E5223) on Hyttimestarintie and “Åminnensilta” (E5227 and E5229) on Kauklahdenväylä.

The changes will not affect the current routes 166 and 167.
